Congressional Candidate Daria Novak Endorsed by Joanne King Herring, of Charlie Wilson’s War Fame
Madison, Connecticut – Joanne King Herring, whose life was portrayed by Julia Roberts in the movie Charlie Wilson’s War, and who widely is credited with a major role in ending the Cold War, endorsed Daria Novak for US Congress in eastern Connecticut today. Herring states:
“It is my honor to endorse Daria Novak for Congress.
“Daria — “the stubborn and cranky Connecticut Yankee” — has taken an unwavering stand for a strong national defense and restored economic growth with economic justice for America. I believe in Daria. She can make a real difference.
“60 Minutes Producer George Crile recorded, in his book Charlie Wilson’s War, the prominent role that I was privileged to play in America’s victory over communism. I was deeply honored to have been nominated, together with Rep. Charlie Wilson and CIA Agent Gust Avrakatos, for the Congressional Gold Medal last year for my role in America’s victory in the Cold War.
“When it comes to defending America, and the American Dream, we need more stubborn champions in Washington. Champions as stubborn and principled as Daria Novak.
“Candidates with the courage and commitment of Daria are much too rare. The voters of eastern Connecticut are lucky to have a candidate of her integrity.
“It is my honor to endorse Daria Novak for Congress.”
Forbes.com weekly political contributor Ralph Benko said of Herring: “Only living, breathing, passionate people are agents of transformation, people such as Joanne Herring, Charlie Wilson, and Gust Avrakatos. It took a great anthropologist, rather than a political scientist, Margaret Mead, to grasp and state this law of nature: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
